Astrology at Parkes

From the Hunter Valley News:

"At ATNF the eight Muswellbrook students were shown around by Dr David Champion in Sydney and spoke to astrologists located at Parkes.

'We talked to the astrologer at Parkes through a webcam,' student Todd Brind said."

If anyone wishes their fortune told then just ask ...

I heard a really good discussion the other day where it was pointed out that astronomers only measure. Astrologers both measure and interpret. So astrology is a lot harder. I think I would have to agree.

While I agree with the previous commenter (after all, the relationship AGREES_WITH(X,Y) is reflexive), I think that there might be more to it. I suspect that the student and newspaper, while knowing that the correct term is "astronomer" is using the term "astrology" as a courtesy title.

In the same way that you might refer to the technician who comes to mend your washing machine as an "engineer" or the police constable who stops you for speeding as "inspector" (I have even heard a North American asking an Australian whether he came from England!), so the paper might be referring to astronomers, the technicians of astrology, as astrologers.

Hey! Astronomers love to interpret. They are usually wrong, but certainly have a go!

Whoa I googled my name "Todd Brind" and this is the top result. Tracking pulsars with the radio telescope at Parkes was surreal and yes I believe I was mis-quoted in saying Astrology when I knew quite well at the time the proper term is Astronomy.
