What do I get myself into?

I've just been to rehearsal where we were playing the Saint-Saens 'cello concerto. I somehow ended up sight-reading the solo part! First time I've played with an orchestra! That was fun!

My first experience of playing with an orchestra was the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Also more-or-less at sight and on a clarinet. I was the only B-flat instrument-player around when the soloist didn't turn up.

Which was it in your case? Did you volunteer for this solo opportunity? Anyway, good for you, making the most of it.
