A photo!

Haven't put a photo on my blog for a while, so here goes ... This photo is of my new toy! An iPod. It's fun although I keep upsetting myself by listening to violin/piano and violin/cello music. I'm playing a Mahler symphony with TOPS tomorow, followed by performing the Mozart clarinet quintet in concert. Too many memories :(

On a non-emotional topic --- I'm having awful trouble trying to implement a Wiener filter and my potato is taking ages to cook.

Wiener filters are notoriously difficult to calibrate. You might try Kabanos' Transformation as a first attempt to correct the problem, but you may still experience irregular heat patterns unless you apply a Toulouse-clamp at the same time. Alternatively, and it's often a successful approach, you could substitute Mortadella for your Wiener, and then you wouldn't have to filter at all (but you probably know this). If all else fails, the Selsig Sir Forgannwg procedure clears most systems, but this is an evasion rather than a solution.

I upgraded from the iPod you're holding in the photograph to an iPod Touch some weeks ago and had intended to send you the now redundant one. However, you obviously don't need it so if anyone else who reads this strange blog would like one, then please leave a comment below to say so.

By the way, to address your other point, I have now had 4 generations of iPods and have never put any music on any of them. It's not required you know.

I do have well over 100 hours of excellent podcasts and can recommend some very good ones. I particularly recommend the ones I produced (available from the iTunes library or try http://www.rfc.ca/Podcast/Podcast.xml)

Wiener filter? What's wrong with my Wiener filter? And why doesn't it work?

iPod's are truly great - even this technological dinosaur has discovered that! (Okay, and in this context I was referring to myself as a dinosaur - not to you!)

Next step is to discover podcasts - might get your Italian going a bit again!
